The Zealot
The Zealot – from Descent Legends of the Dark
The Zealot has been terrifying my heroes at every play, so let’s paint it!
What the Zealot is evades me, but regardless is a very peculiar miniature with a strong pose and – while painting it – I noticed is full of small details that make this mini even more interesting!
I have decided to paint it light blue, using many colours along the way to highlight all the details it has. However, I have to say I have used several Contrast Paints from Citadel on this miniature: they helped me to bring up the light on apparently flat objects, such us the stick and the book.
Mushrooms, skulls, books, spores, ribbons… this mini has them all! The face is very expressive and also here Contrast Paints help. With Contrast the final result is like having four slightly different minis, which is exactly the result I wanted to achieve. Same concept I have recently applied for the Bandits.
The rope wasn’t that challenging honestly, but the face rally was. It’s very pale (so are the teeth). How could I possibly make a nice difference in tones between the two? Not using the white! I didn’t use any pure white as the base colour. I have only used ivory, and some yellow here and there to create some light.
I don’t know, the expansion looks a little closer!!
